Start Karting

THINKING OF STARTING KARTING?

Karting is for everyone age 6 and upwards. If you want to see the action before you commit then come along to a race meeting (view calendar of events) and talk to anyone around the paddock. Everyone is very friendly and will be more than helpful when it comes to advice, Don't be afraid to ask!

Three decisions you need to make to get started;

What Kart Class to enter?

Bambino 6-8years of age (Comer C50G engine)

Cadet 8-12years of age (Iame/Rotax Cadet 2stroke or Honda 4 stroke engine)

Inter 10-13 years of age (Rotax Inter engine)

Junior max 12-16 years of age (Rotax Juinor)

Senior Max age 16 upwards (Rotax Max)

There are other classes depending on weight but lets not get into that now, talk with people at the track.

What Kart to Buy?

ALWAYS know before you buy, be careful! Get some background info as to what your buying, ask someone who knows if its what you need. Usually someone who has outgrown the class and selling a complete package is best to get started up, other wise you will just keep adding to what is needed. Best place to see what is available is on various Facebook groups, preferably the Irish Karting groups to see the kit locally before you buy. Visiting the track will also let you see what is available as you talk with owners.

How to get a Licence?

Before you can go racing you will need to get a racing licence, which can be obtained from the sports governing body, Motorsport UK. You begin with a starter pack ( Motorsport UK shop ) which costs £64. This pack contains a Novice application form  to be completed and sent back after completing an ARKS test(Approx £100). The cost of the licence and the cost of an Entrant PG licence is extra. (which is required of any parent whose child is under the age of 18 and competing within UK National Karting events). The pack also a USB memory stick which contains a video on Karting.
